They added that pupils are “mature, insightful and perceptive beyond their years” with an "excellent sense of community and responsibility towards others”. The inspectors also recognised the pastoral care that the school offers its pupils and their report noted: "Excellent moral awareness is deeply embedded into the ethos, values, policies and behavioural practices within the school pupils readily take responsibility for their own behaviour and have a clear awareness of right and wrong." As a consequence, pupils “make excellent progress across the school, attaining A-level grades significantly higher than expected for those of their ability." In addition, they noted that "attitudes to learning are exemplary, demonstrating excellent initiative and independence, both individually and collaboratively". The inspectors said that pupils at the school "develop an excellent range of knowledge, skills and understanding across all age ranges throughout the school, well supported by the strong school-wide culture of respect and nurture”. The inspection of the Hillsway school took place over three days and involved interviewing staff and students, surveying parents and observing classes and daily life at the school. This involves the creation of a 2G pitch and dining hall. As a result, the school, which currently has 640 pupils aged three to 18, will in the future be able to increase its roll from the current 610 to 665 pupils, after inspectors decided that its provision would be "suitably enhanced" to accommodate the extra students.Īdditionally, the newly-published inspection report says that "provision will be further enhanced" on completion of a building programme that is due to be completed by September 2024. Inspectors also considered any "material change requests", meaning any proposals that would be a change from the school's original situation. The Independent Schools Inspectorate visited Derby High School in Littleover in January and focused on the pupils' academic achievements and personal development. An independent Derby school has been given the go-ahead to officially increase its pupil numbers as part of an inspection visit which decided it should be graded "excellent" overall. ![]()
